Mohamed Salah named Footballer of the Year by FWA

    May 10, 2025 Sports

Mohamed Salah has been named the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Footballer of the Year for 2025, marking the third time the Liverpool forward has received the prestigious individual honor. The Egyptian international now equals the record held by former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry for the most wins of the award. Salah, 32, was the standout choice among the 900-member association, receiving more than 90 percent of the total votes cast.

Salah wins FWA award for third time after strong season

His latest accolade follows a stellar season in which he played a decisive role in securing Liverpool’s Premier League title. The club reclaimed the championship for the first time since 2020, with Salah at the forefront of their campaign. In the 2024-2025 season, Salah has delivered a total of 28 goals in league competition, alongside 18 assists across 35 appearances. His attacking contributions have been instrumental in Liverpool’s dominance, combining consistency, leadership, and creative playmaking in the final third.

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk finished second in the voting, underscoring the strength of the club’s squad throughout the season. Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak was ranked third, while Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice secured fourth place. The recognition further cements Salah’s legacy within English football, having previously won the FWA Footballer of the Year award in 2018 and 2022. He continues to be one of the most influential figures in the Premier League, maintaining high performance levels deep into his thirties.

Salah’s season has also been notable for his leadership on and off the pitch, frequently captaining Liverpool and serving as a key figure in both domestic and European fixtures. His durability and consistency have remained evident, as he has missed only a handful of matches throughout the campaign. With this award, Salah’s contribution to Liverpool’s title-winning season is formally recognized by journalists and broadcasters, highlighting the continued impact of one of the league’s most decorated forwards. – By MENA Newswire News Desk.
